James Rankin, MSW, LCSW

I grew up in western Pennsylvania about an hour from Pittsburgh where I received a BA degree from Duquesne University. My career started out in business, but approximately 20 years ago, after moving to Berks County, I crossed over into a human services career. I started my mental health career by working with families who had children with developmental delays or other mental health diagnosis. I then worked with our local child welfare agency where I met families who were experiencing problems with substance abuse, mental health disorders, relationship problems, and/or family conflict. I then attended Marywood University via their then satellite campus at Alvernia. This is where I earned my Master’s Degree in Social Work in 2008. After accruing several thousand clinical hours in outpatient therapy, I was licensed as a Clinical Social Worker in 2012.
I have been fortunate to acquire a wide range of experiences as a clinician since that time which allow me to serve a wide variety of clients. This includes working in an in-patient mental health facility as well as specialized treatment for at-risk clients involved in the criminal and civil court processes. I have prepared forensic mental health evaluations and incorporated psychometric testing specific to personality disorders as part of an assessment process. I have invested in training specific to work with couples and partners experiencing issues of conflict, or trust in their relationships. Additionally, I have worked with individuals to assess and treat issues related to anger and domestic violence as well as with the family to repair those relationships. I have always worked with individuals who may be experiencing mood or anxiety related issues, or personality disorders.
